Implants are a highly beneficial, minimally invasive tooth-replacement option. They are made of two parts, a titanium post to replace the tooth root, and an implant restoration (crown) to replace the portion of the tooth above the gum line.
Bridges, Dentures, or Implants?
Historically, replacing missing teeth involved partial dentures or bridges. To have a bridge, you have to have healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth. This involves reducing the adjacent teeth on both sides of the missing tooth. It is a functional option but any time a tooth is worked on, you risk the need for root canal therapy. If something happens to the teeth holding the bridge on then then bridge can be lost. Full and partial dentures present their own drawbacks. They have to be removed daily and will not give you as much chewing ability.
Implants, on the other hand, do not require stability from adjacent teeth. They are just as secure and functional as natural teeth when it comes to eating and speaking. Implants are also generally longer-lasting than bridges and dentures. With proper home hygiene care and regular visits to our Tucson dental office for professional cleanings, dental implants can last a lifetime.
Versatility to Meet Your Needs
A single implant can effectively replace a single missing tooth. If several teeth are missing, a permanent bridge can be anchored by implants. If you are missing all of your natural teeth, a few strategically placed implants can anchor an implant-supported denture.
